FAQs

What's Included in the Cost?
What's Included in the Cost?

The guided trip will involve your guide, possible transport to and from the fishing destination, and any needed equipment. This equipment may include waders, wading boots, rods, leaders, tippet, and flies. Cold water bottles are available on all trips. Lunch is provided on Full Day Trips only.

What do I need to bring?
What do I need to bring?

A fishing license is required. All fishing equipment will be included for all guided trips. However, if you have waders, boots, rods, line, reels and want to bring them, please do. For the most part, the standard rods most commonly used on the local waters are 9-foot 5-weight and 9-foot 6-weight for trout fishing. As a reminder, most fishing trips will be at high elevations and the sun can be intense. I recommend a hat, jacket (rain/cold temperatures), sunglasses, sunscreen, insect repellant, neck gaiters, socks, etc. Additional snacks, basic food, cold beverages won't be provided on 1/2 to 3/4 day trips. Please bring those items to make your fishing trip more enjoyable.

Where do we meet for the trip?
Where do we meet for the trip?

Guided trips will be set up by the guide the evening before the reserved trip by phone and also a text message with clear detailed arrangements.

What are the guide trip rates?

Please refer to the rates section on the guided fly fishing trip page on the website. Please refer to our deposit policy on all guide trip reservations.

How should I prepare for the trip?
How should I prepare for the trip?

The majority of the fishing destinations are above 5000 feet in elevation. So, as a precaution, there should be preparations for a minimum of 24 hours to allow adjustments if any travel is coming from low elevation. The majority of trips don't require hiking long distances. We encourage you to let your guide know of any limitations you may have. We encourage you to practice casting before the trip if you have the opportunity to do so. This will definitely make the planned trip more enjoyable.

Where will we go fishing?
Where will we go fishing?

There are many things that can impact a plan on when and where you want to go fishing. I would recommend contacting us by phone to determine a trip date or possible timeframe of the season. When you arrive in southern Utah, your guide will have the most current information on where the best areas to fish are. I'd recommend following the guide’s direction for the best areas. If there are personal goals or something that's important to you relating to the day, please let the guide know what that would be.

What can I expect on my guided trip?
What can I expect on my guided trip?

West Rim Anglers are experienced fly fishers that will do everything they can to help you catch fish and make your planned trip as enjoyable as possible. We provide practical instruction with casting a fly rod, knot tying, best flies to use, presentation techniques, fishing strategies, and landing fish. Fishing licenses, alcoholic beverages, lodging, gratuities, and other personal items are not included with trip rates. The guides will have all necessary gear to achieve the goal that you have a great day on the water.

Will the weather impact the trip?
Will the weather impact the trip?

Believe it or not, the fishing is best when the weather doesn’t cooperate. Our goal is for you to have a great time, and we will not force you to fish in any type of weather that is a threat or extremely cold. On a positive note, if the conditions are not too excessive but involve wind, snow, or other possible conditions, we have the expectations to meet with you on the scheduled reserved day trip. Re-bookings won’t be available except if there are abnormal circumstances through the discretion of West Rim Anglers. When there is a date scheduled and you decide not to go, the decision is yours. This decision will forfeit all deposits and/or paid balances. I strongly recommend researching trip insurance.

Is it possible to have 3 guests with one guide?
Is it possible to have 3 guests with one guide?

I don’t recommend doing this. West Rim Anglers has a goal to provide the highest level of service that is possible on all guide trips. When there are three anglers, I cannot provide an equal amount of high-quality service. However, if you must have three people with one guide, then anticipate the following items: 1) charges for a third angler are required 2) There will be less attention by the guide 3) Be prepared to catch fewer fish per person.
